1948 Pontiac Deluxe Torpedo Conv Description: Available is a rare 1948 Pontiac Deluxe Torpedo convertible! Powered by a 249ci flathead inline-eight engine paired with a four-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. The Harley Earl-designed Torpedo was offered in multiple body styles. It features a tan cloth convertible top with a rear window that unzips, a driver’s side spotlight, dual chrome mirrors, fender skirts, and chrome bumpers. An Antique Automobile Club of America 1990 National First Prize Winner badge is mounted on the front bumper.
Body-color 16-inch steel wheels wear full wheel covers and bias-ply whitewall tires. The car rides on a 119-inch wheelbase with independent front suspension and a live rear axle supported by semi-elliptical springs and shock absorbers. Stopping power comes from hydraulic drum brakes at all four corners.
Inside, the cabin offers a split-front bench seat and rear bench upholstered in red imitation leather with beige cloth inserts, coordinated with matching door panels and carpets. The body-color steel dashboard houses an AM radio and an analog clock. A three-spoke steering wheel with chrome horn ring frames a 100-mph speedometer along with gauges for charging, fuel level, oil pressure, and water temperature. The 249ci inline-eight is fitted with a single downdraft carburetor and was rated at 103 horsepower when new; an electric fuel pump has been added.
